How to Become a Radiation Therapist in North Carolina
To become a radiation therapist in North Carolina, you need to complete an accredited radiation therapy program. Students can take a one-year certificate program, an associate’s degree program, or a bachelor’s degree in community colleges, 4-year universities, and hospitals. In most states, students need to obtain licensure and a pass in a prescribed national certification.
Students who have graduated from accredited training programs can take nationally recognized exams to earn a Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT) certification. There is no state-mandated requirement to work in the radiologic technology sector in North Carolina. However, most employers hire professionals who are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), or the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
ARRT and JRCERT are the primary licensing body for radiation therapists. Radiation therapy practitioners with an Associates Degree, Bachelors of Science, or Post-baccalaureate specialization can sit the ARRT and JRCERT exams to obtain licensure.
